The IVIDIA Lab was originally established in 2014 under the direction of Dr. Ju Shen in the department of Computer Science. The mission of IVIDIA Lab seeks to utilize state-of-the-art technologies in vision, machine learning, and interactive media, to foster the development of virtual reality (VR) applications in various forms of human-computer interactions. In particular, they are exploring the potential educational and therapeutic values of VR technologies to facilitate the learning and rehabilitation procedures. In addition to research, the IVIDIA lab is also serving undergraduate and graduate students who take independent study courses on topics of virtual and augmented reality to engage with various sensors, headsets, and interactive controllers for VR content creation. 

Ongoing research projects include:

  • Realtime motion tracking and retargeting for behavior rehabilitation 
  • Mobile 3D ranging with monocular video stream to reconstruct high quality 3D models
  • Unobtrusive behavior analytics for novel activity synthesis
  • Tele-immersive communication system by transforming every smartphone and tablet into an interactive VR device
Ju Shen Lab 沈举


Dr. Ju Shen is an assistant professor of Computer Science at the University of Dayton. He is also the director of Interactive Visual Media Lab (IVIDIA). He received his Ph.D. in computer science under the leadership of professor Sen-ching Samson Cheung from the University of Kentucky, KY in 2014 and his M.Sc. in computer science from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2006. His research interests include computer vision, machine learning, and interactive media. Dr. Ju Shen is a senior member of the IEEE society and has authored and co-authored 30+ published papers. He has served as the journal editor for Computational Intelligence and Neuroscience Journal, and served as the program chair, area chair, publication chair, and TPC for a number of international conferences, including IEEE ICMEIEEE ISMIEEE ICIPIEEE BigMM, IEEE MIPRMAICS, and has reviewed over 200+ scientific journals, book chapters, conferences, including IEEE Transactions of MultimediaIEEE Transactions on Image ProcessingIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal ProcessingEncyclopedia of Image Processing, etc.

Fast Convolutional Neural Network
